My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Suddenly, an immense heaviness has fallen upon me, and I don’t know where to run. I no longer want to live. Where are you, Lord? Dragged lifelessly toward a motionless desert, only shadows surround my borders. How can I escape? Have mercy on me, my God…
Like a besieged city, anguish, sadness, bitterness, and agony surround me, oppress me, suffocate me. What is all this called? Nausea? Weariness of life? I do not forget, Jesus, Son of God and servant of the Father, that there, in Gethsemane, weariness and agony oppressed you to the point of shedding tears and blood.
A heavy sadness of death flooded your soul, like a bitter sea… But everything passed! I know that my night, too, will pass. I know you will tear this darkness apart, my God, and tomorrow consolation will dawn. The great walls will fall, and I will be able to breathe again. My soul will be visited and will come back to life…
Thank you, my God, because everything has been a nightmare, only the nightmare of a night already past. Now grant me patience and hope. And may Your will be done in me, my God. Amen.
